Attempts to destabilize the situation in Georgia were financed not only by American but also by European funds, stated the speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.
“The world has changed, and there are no longer the same restrictions on foreign aid. Now every donor country is under suspicion. Moreover, we have not only suspicions, but also evidence that, in addition to American funds, money from European states or funds was spent to destabilize Georgia,” Papuashvili noted.
Speaking about EU funding, he gave the example of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) grant-making organization which, according to him, “uses intelligence services methods to secretly finance radical political parties and groups.”
“We have presented a number of examples in this regard. I have written and stated this publicly many times. I also had a letter addressed to the EU ambassador [to Georgia] asking him to disclose the funding of the [EED] foundation. But after several months of consultation, he did not do so. Now I expect that every donor organization or state—be it Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, the EU or any other country being funded in Georgia—will follow the example of the new US administration,” the added speaker of the Georgian parliament.
