The theme of today’s meeting is “BRICS and the Global South – Joint Construction of a Better World”, and the transport and communications project “Crossroads of the World” announced by the Government of Armenia fits perfectly into this context. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 24.
“The essence of the project is as follows: Armenia is ready and interested in organizing the passage of vehicles, cargo, passengers, pipelines, and cable routes through its territory.
This is the shortest route between the Black Sea and the Persian Gulf through the territories of Iran, Armenia, and Georgia. This is the North-South direction.
This is also the shortest route between the Caspian and Marmara Seas through the territories of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey. This is the East-West direction.
This route can also be used for transport and communications between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Taking this approach into account, we offered Azerbaijan mechanisms for simplified border and customs control procedures, as well as additional security measures, taking into account the jurisdiction and full respect for the sovereignty of both countries.
Armenia is able to ensure and will fully ensure the safety of the passage of goods, resources, vehicles and people through its territory.
This is our desire, our commitment, and we guarantee it and will always guarantee it.
All claims that Armenia has allegedly agreed in any form that any third country will ensure the security of communications on its sovereign territory or that any document provides for this are not true,” Pashinyan noted.
