Pashinyan reached some kind of agreement with the President of Azerbaijan in Dushanbe, and then a deal was struck. Serzh Sargsyan

The guest of the exclusive episode of the “Imnemnim” podcast is the third President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.

The podcast’s hosts asked the third President of the Republic of Armenia to comment on how and when, in his opinion, Nikol Pashinyan began sabotaging the peace process in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“I think Pashinyan initially failed to thoroughly understand the negotiation process, because simply reading the documents, it was difficult to understand where they were leading the parties.

Then, perhaps, he reached some kind of agreement with the President of Azerbaijan in Dushanbe, because after that, events occurred that began to deeply concern me,” said Serzh Sargsyan, also mentioning the main event.

“For nine years, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the Foreign Ministers of the Council of Europe member states repeated what the Co-Chairs had said: that the problem should be resolved based on three well-known principles. But for some reason, in early 2019, they changed their position, naturally with Armenia’s consent, and wrote that the problem should be resolved ‘based on the principle of justice.'”

Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that for him, this was a serious signal of impending danger.

“Because the existing principles were internationally recognized, and the principle of justice is a highly relative concept. One thing might be fair to us, but unfair to the other side, and vice versa. In other words, there’s a lot of room for debate here… And I think this was done at Azerbaijan’s request. A kind of compromise was reached: yes, we’ll agree to this, but we can’t fire along the border,” the Third President said.
