Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has died. He was 97.
Metropolitan Epiphanius, head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, announced his death, according to RBC-Ukraine.
“Today, my heart, like the hearts of many Ukrainians, is filled with deep sorrow and pain, because today the earthly life of His Holiness Patriarch Filaret has ended,” he wrote.
The Metropolitan called on the flock throughout Ukraine to pray wholeheartedly for the repose of Patriarch Filaret’s soul.
