Red Cross visits Armenians illegally held in Azerbaijan capital Baku

In February, staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited the Armenians illegally held in Baku,  the capital of Azerbaijan. Zara Amatuni, ICRC Armenia Communications and Prevention Manager, told about this.

According to Amatuni, these Armenians were given the opportunity to contact their families.

Baku officially confirms the fact of the capture of 23 Armenians, 17 of whom ended up there after Azerbaijan’s military aggression against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in September 2023.

The aforesaid Armenian captives include several members of the former military and political leadership of Artsakh. They are Artsakh former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan and Arayik Harutyunyan, former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, former foreign minister David Babayan, former parliament speaker Davit Ishkhanyan, former defense minister Levon Mnatsakanyan, and former deputy defense minister Davit Manukyan.
