US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is changing her campaign strategy to attract more men and Republicans, Reuters reported, citing unnamed Democratic sources.
As the agency noted, Harris is stepping up her attacks on her Republican opponent Donald Trump, and this is happening against the backdrop of the fact that recent polls show Trump making significant progress.
According to opinion polls and internal election surveys cited by Democratic sources, Harris is statistically tied with Trump in key states.
Reporters noted that this is a moment of disappointment for a turbulent campaign that began with a huge surge in enthusiasm and donations when Harris replaced incumbent US President Joe Biden in July, held a strong Democratic Party convention and was declared the winner of her only debate with Trump.
A Democratic adviser noted that after weeks of focusing on policy and trying to establish herself on the national stage, Harris is returning to her “prosecutor’s stance.”
She hopes to show strength to voters who might be attracted to Trump’s image as a strong leader.
As the agency emphasized, during an evening rally on October 14 in Erie, Pennsylvania, she took the rare step of showing clips of Trump talking about the “enemy within” of the United States to bolster her argument that he poses a danger to the country. In recent days, three Trump donors told Reuters they felt increasingly confident about the Republican’s chances, noting the shift in Americans’ attention to immigration and the success of Trump’s recent rallies.
Harris’s internal campaign polls show her within the margin of error in each of seven key battleground states, two people said.
One person added that the numbers were nearly tied in Pennsylvania, up significantly in Wisconsin and down in Michigan.
