Seven NATO countries oppose Ukraine’s immediate accession to the alliance: POLITICO

A number of NATO countries, including the United States and Germany, are not ready to accept the demands of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and immediately invite him to the alliance due to fears of entering into a direct conflict with Russia.

According to the information, Germany and the United States are among the first countries to delay the issue of inviting Kyiv to the alliance.

Hungary and Slovakia are also against Ukraine’s membership.

According to another source, the bloc’s countries only hypothetically approve of Ukraine’s membership and will actively resist it as soon as it begins to become a reality. Key members of the alliance are postponing the invitation to Kyiv because they are “worried about being drawn into a war with Russia.”

According to a POLITICO source, the administration of US President Joe Biden believes that most EU countries will not support Ukraine’s membership in NATO in the near future. The US administration has repeatedly stated that Kyiv’s membership in NATO can only happen after the end of the war with Russia, but no specific dates are specified. A possible future invitation to Kyiv “would be linked to mandatory reforms to combat corruption in Ukraine.”

In his so-called “victory plan,” which Zelensky recently presented to EU countries and before that to the US leadership, he asks for an immediate invitation to Ukraine to NATO, but at the same time admits that this will only be possible after the end of the war with Russia.
