South Korean President Declares Martial Law

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a “state of emergency” on Tuesday, accusing the country’s opposition of controlling parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities, the Associated Press reported.

He called the move critical to protecting the country’s constitutional order.

Since taking office in 2022, Yoon has tried to push his agenda in the opposition-controlled parliament, the media reported.
