The command of the armed opposition in Syria announced a ban on the forced wearing of the hijab for women, emphasizing their right to choose their own clothes. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan.
“The General Command categorically prohibits forcing women to a certain style of clothing, interfering with their right to choose, or making claims related to their appearance,” the newspaper quotes the command’s statement.
Recall that on November 27, armed opposition groups launched a large-scale offensive on the positions of the Syrian army in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. By the evening of December 7, they took control of several key cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, and Homs. Already on December 8, opposition forces entered Damascus, from where the Syrian government troops were forced to retreat.
