Thailand and Cambodia to hold high-level ceasefire talks on December 27

A high-level meeting of the Border Settlement Committee between Thailand and Cambodia will be held on December 27 to discuss a ceasefire in the conflict between the two countries, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, citing the Royal Ministry of Defense, TASS reports.

“Negotiations within this mechanism will be held at the secretariat level from December 24 to 26. The high-level meeting itself will take place on December 27. This is the standard format for all Border Settlement Committee meetings,” the statement read.

Clashes involving light weapons on the Cambodian-Thai border began on December 7. On December 8, Thai ground forces reported that Cambodian troops had begun shelling Thai positions in the border area. In response, the Thai Air Force attacked Cambodian military infrastructure. Russian embassies in both countries have advised Russian tourists to avoid visiting border areas.
