The Armenian Genocide is one of the darkest pages in human history. Speaker of the Greek Parliament

Speaker of the Greek Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis issued a statement on the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“1915” April 24 – April 24, 2025

110 years after the official start of the Armenian Genocide

On that day, most of the Armenian intellectuals and community leaders were arrested, tortured and killed in Ottoman Constantinople. Hundreds of Armenians from Constantinople were hanged along with them.

The Armenian Genocide is one of the darkest pages in human history, taking the lives of 1.5 million Armenians and becoming the beginning of the deportation and suffering of millions of people.

And yet, 110 years after these horrific historical events, Türkiye officially continues to stubbornly deny the historical truth.

And today, where history and wounds meet the present and the hopes of the future, we all have a duty to remember, honor and protect the memory of our brothers, today Armenians, tomorrow Asia Minor, Pontians and Cypriots.

“Because only in this way, with memory and prudence, can we unite and resist oblivion and the distortion of history,” the statement says.

Recall that this year marks the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Every year on April 24, a mourning procession of hundreds of thousands of Armenians silently moves to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, laying flowers in memory of approximately 1.5 million victims.
