Tigran Abrahamyan, Secretary of the Honor faction of the RA National Assembly, wrote:
“The Defense Minister, speaking on air about the reduction of compulsory military service, noted that the army should be desirable, understandable to society, and not turn into a prison.
If there is a hint of hazing in the army, let me remind you that the Communist Party has been in power for 7.5 years, and this is a serious accusation against its own government.
Secondly, if this is being discussed in the context of reducing compulsory military service, then state priorities related to the security of our citizens, the sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country should be considered not in the context of mere moments or a desire to please society, but in the context of the combat missions being undertaken.
It was also, in a certain sense, a glimmer of sincerity in that this change stemmed not from the needs of the country’s security, but from the logic of ensuring changes that would be pleasant for society, which undoubtedly had a pronounced pre-election impact.
