The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation will not participate in the 12th plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan, stated the head of the delegation, Tahir Mirkishili.
According to him, the documents and statements of the European Parliament, which constitute half of the Euronest PA’s activities, contradict the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
These statements also do not contribute to the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the region. On the contrary, they play into the hands of forces interested in continuing military hostilities in the region. The Milli Majlis has repeatedly protested this. “Following the peaceful meeting between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia in Washington in August of this year, which was positively received worldwide, the destructive statement by the European Parliament once again undermined the Azerbaijani delegation’s confidence in the benefits of cooperation with this organization within the Euronest PA,” Mirkishili stated.
According to him, this decision is not related to the fact that the event is being held in Armenia.
“Today, peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia is already secured, and practical steps are being taken to normalize relations,” Mirkishili said.
