Yesterday, the most discussed issue in the public space was, in fact, Pashinyan’s behavior in the metro. When the head of state started yelling at a woman from Artsakh. He accused her of fleeing Artsakh. When the woman simply said that by homeland she meant the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh combined, noting that her child wanted his own home in Artsakh, his own room, his own friends.
And naturally, against this backdrop, Pashinyan had to scream. To show off. After all, the best defense is a good offense. And in this case, he was a man defending himself, with his natural emotions. Which, at that moment, were simply impossible to hide.
And what happened next? It then became clear that the woman Pashinyan had targeted was the daughter-in-law of the legendary Meruzhan Mosyan, commander of the 26th Motorized Rifle Battalion in the Martuni region and holder of the 1st Class “Combat Cross.” A man whose father sacrificed the most important thing for Artsakh—his life. Footage filmed in September 2023 was later published, showing this woman taking refuge in one of the shelters with a child in her arms. Incidentally, she was holding the very same boy who had been forced to listen to a man yell at his mother the day before.
Amid all this, a barrage of criticism was expected, and Pashinyan was also expected to apologize to this woman and his son. And so it happened. For a man who was simply trying to get a few votes, this was a serious slap in the face. He himself is fighting to be perceived in a positive light, but the opposite is happening. The entire nation was simply disgusted by him at that moment.
So what should have been done? Yes, apologize.
But that wasn’t enough. He also stated that he was ready to receive this woman and her son and apologize to them live on air. There’s still no answer. And in this case, it’s almost certain that the woman will refuse to participate in this theater.
But even if he accepts this offer and hears the word “apology” from Pashinyan, will anything change? Of course not, because in the next step, this man will yell at someone else. He’ll say that the people of Artsakh didn’t preserve Artsakh, or that the people of Artsakh fled Artsakh and didn’t defend their land.
And these thoughts, expressed with a shrill voice, will be perceived as truth by some crowd. And they won’t even consider why the people of Artsakh didn’t preserve their land, why there were so many casualties, how it happened that so many women lost their father, brother, and husband all at once? These questions won’t arise for this group… in their case, what matters is a full stomach, which will be ensured if the greedy Pashinyan is re-elected.
And the people who saw and know what happened won’t fear Pashinyan’s cries and won’t expect an apology later. Because with these apologies, we won’t bring back Artsakh, we won’t bring back the fallen boys. And in general, these apologies won’t change anything. It’s the same old story: whenever the word Artsakh is mentioned, “a bear will start screaming in fear.”
