The choice of the venue for the Putin-Trump meeting is a slap in the face to the EU and NATO. El Confidencial

The choice of Budapest as the venue for the upcoming meeting between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump is a slap in the face to the European Union and NATO. This opinion was expressed in an article in the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial.

According to the newspaper, the initial result of the conversation between the two leaders the previous day does not look promising for either Ukraine or the EU. In the opinion of the newspaper, Europe cannot limit itself to observing only the developments around Ukraine, taking into account its own interests.

On October 16, after a conversation with Putin, Trump announced that they had agreed to meet in the Hungarian capital in the near future. The US president later clarified that this could happen within the next two weeks.

The conversation discussed the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, the possible supply of Tomahawk missiles by Washington to Kiev, bilateral relations between Russia and the United States, and the situation in the Gaza Strip. After the conversation, the presidents agreed to maintain contact.
