On October 2, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and Iran, signed by the presidents of the two countries in January of this year, officially entered into force.
“This event is an important milestone in the history of Russian-Iranian interstate relations, which have reached a qualitatively new level of comprehensive strategic partnership. The document defines key guidelines in all priority areas of bilateral cooperation for the long term,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Foreign Ministry notes that the Treaty “envisages strengthening cooperation in the international arena in the context of the emergence of a multipolar world order, including close coordination within leading multilateral alliances, joint efforts to strengthen stability and security in the region, and countering common challenges and threats.”
“The Treaty reflects the strategic choice of the top political leadership of Russia and Iran in favor of further comprehensive strengthening of friendly and good-neighborly relations, which meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
