The European Court has demanded that Baku submit a report on Armenians.

The European Court of Human Rights has demanded that Azerbaijan submit a report on the detention and health of 23 Armenian prisoners held in Baku prisons by November 4.

Siranush Sahakyan, a representative of the Armenian prisoners at the European Court, told Radio Liberty that Azerbaijan filed a motion to waive the obligation to submit the report back in July. However, after objections from the Armenian government and the prisoners’ representatives at the European Court, the Court ultimately rejected Azerbaijan’s motion and ordered Baku to provide information on the Armenian prisoners.

The Armenian prisoners in Baku prisons have been in complete isolation for approximately three months; no independent international organization has visited them. Information on their detention, health, or psychological state is lacking.

Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross last visited Armenian prisoners in June. As of today, this international organization has permanently ceased its activities in Baku at the request of the Azerbaijani authorities.
