The problem of access to Kiranets agricultural lands after the demarcation remains unresolved.
Residents of Kiranets may face difficulties accessing the lands near the Berkaber reservoir, as the main road to them passes through the former village of Herimli, which is now controlled by Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure responded at the time that the issue could only be resolved after the border delimitation and demarcation process was completed.
The editorial staff recently contacted the ministry again to inquire about possible changes. They said that “there is no decision at the moment.”
Local residents who own these fertile lands confirm that they remain uncultivated. In theory, it is possible to get there via another, difficult-to-pass road, but many are afraid to use these plots for security reasons. The lands are located close to the new border, which raises concerns about possible mining; Azerbaijani border posts are now very close, in the area of the former village of Herimli. Some owners have not visited their plots at all since the delimitation.
In addition, access to these territories requires coordination with the Armenian border services, which creates additional complications.
It is worth noting that the total area of the village’s land on the shore of the reservoir is about 60 hectares, of which about 45 were cultivated. Residents offered to exchange this territory for the bridge and the adjacent plot transferred to Baku, but their offer was not accepted, since the delimitation commissions of the two countries formally did not have such powers.
