The UN Security Council adopted a US-sponsored resolution on the Gaza Strip.

A US-sponsored resolution on lasting peace in the Gaza Strip has received the support of the UN Security Council, according to the organization’s website.

Thirteen of the 15 member states approved the document. Russia and China abstained. The resolution is based on US President Donald Trump’s plan, which, among other things, calls for the creation of a Peace Council as a transitional body and the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip. The document also mentions the possibility of creating conditions paving the way for Palestinian self-determination and statehood following reform and reconstruction of the enclave.

Earlier, Russia proposed its own version of the resolution, which would have tasked the UN Secretary-General with developing proposals for a possible stabilization mission in the Gaza Strip, but the draft was not put to a vote.

Nebenzya explained that Moscow made this decision to avoid renewed bloodshed in the enclave, given that Ramallah in the West Bank and Arab Muslim states supported the American proposal.

Hamas rejected the resolution, claiming that it ignores the rights and demands of the Palestinians, as it effectively proposes the establishment of external governance.

“Granting international forces tasks and functions in the Gaza Strip, including disarming resistance forces, deprives them of their neutrality and turns them into occupiers,” the group stated.

According to the adopted resolution, the United States and other interested countries will be granted broad powers to govern the Gaza Strip and ensure security there until the end of 2027, with the possibility of extension.

According to the draft, the International Stabilization Force will operate in close cooperation with Israel and Egypt under a unified command agreed upon by the Peace Council, which will be chaired by Trump. The force will include military personnel from a number of countries, with Azerbaijan, Egypt, Indonesia, and Türkiye already expressing their willingness to participate.
