Trump and Putin to meet at Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base: CNN

The planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska will take place at Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base, CNN reports, citing sources.

Soon after preparations began for the meeting, organizers came to the conclusion that the only city in Alaska where the summit would take place would be Anchorage, the state’s largest city.

Only Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base, located on the northern outskirts of the city, could meet security requirements, although the White House hoped to avoid a situation in which the Russian president would end up on the territory of an American military facility, CNN writes.

As the channel’s interlocutors noted, when choosing a location for the meeting, options related to Europe were immediately rejected due to the arrest warrant for Putin issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. At the same time, sources continue, the option of Hungary is being considered, whose Prime Minister Viktor Orban is close to both Putin and Trump.
