US President Donald Trump promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not to discuss territorial issues during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, NBC and CNN reported, citing their sources. Trump made this statement during an online conference with European leaders, which was also attended by Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the publication’s sources, the US president intends to achieve an unconditional ceasefire.
In addition, some European leaders got the impression that Trump “is not very optimistic about the results of the meeting with Putin,” NBC added.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that a peace agreement on Ukraine would include “some exchange of territories,” and Zelensky “should be ready to sign something.” Now, according to CNN, the American president supported providing security guarantees to Ukraine, including with the participation of the United States.
He also threatened “very serious consequences” if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire.
