Trump said he could side with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump said in an interview with The Atlantic that he could side with Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.

“Not necessarily Zelensky’s side, but Ukraine’s side, yeah. Yeah. But not necessarily Zelensky’s side. I’ve had tough times with Zelensky. You saw it here, sitting right there in that chair, where he just couldn’t get it,” the US president said.

He also commented on his spat with the Ukrainian president in the Oval Office.

“All he had to do was shut up, you know? He got his way. He got his way. But instead of saying, ‘Okay,’ when I made the statement, I said, ‘Well, we’re working to solve this. We’re trying to help.’ He said, ‘No, no, we need security, too.’ I said, ‘Security?’” Trump said.

Asked whether Zelensky should not defend his country, the US president said: “Yes, it is, but one way or another, let’s end the war first. In fact, I said, ‘I don’t even know if we can end this.’ You know, after that, he talked about security. After. And then he made a statement, something like, they fought this alone, nobody helped them. I said, ‘Well, we helped you with $350 billion, and Europe helped you with much less money,’ and that’s another thing that worries me.” “We’ll see what happens over the next week. We’re starting to put the finishing touches on it. And again, this is Biden’s war. I don’t want to be burdened — I don’t want to be burdened with this. This is a terrible war. This should not have happened. It would never have happened, it’s as obvious as you sitting here,” he added.
