US President-elect Donald Trump would like to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin as soon as possible. He said this in an interview with Newsmax.
“And I know he wants to meet, and I’m going to meet very quickly. I’d like to see it happen sooner. But, you know, I have to get in office first,” Trump said.
Trump’s future national security adviser Mike Waltz said in an interview with ABC News that telephone talks between the Russian leader and the US president-elect could take place in the near future. Trump previously said that he would like to meet with Putin in the first six months of his presidency and is ready for such contacts. The press secretary of the Russian head of state, Dmitry Peskov, noted that Putin is ready to meet with his new American counterpart without any conditions, although, according to him, “there are no specifics yet.”
