Washington should have provided aid to Ukraine in the form of loans or with some kind of guarantee of compensation. US President Donald Trump expressed confidence in this on Wednesday after the swearing-in ceremony of Tulsi Gabbard as the new US Director of National Intelligence.
“I support Ukraine. But I want our money to be protected,” the head of the Washington administration told reporters. He emphasized that EU countries provide aid to Kyiv in the form of loans.
“I talked about this to [previous US President Joe] Biden. I said that you need to demand either a loan or guarantees in some form, like their oil and gas or something else for this money,” Trump said. “Because you are giving much more money than Europe, and you have no guarantees,” he added, speaking about Washington’s support for Kyiv.
“We will protect our money,” Trump emphasized, referring to US spending on aid to Ukraine. “They have rare earth metals, they have oil and gas, and a lot of other things. And we ask for a guarantee [of the return] of our money. Ukraine has agreed to this,” the American leader added. He answered affirmatively to a question about whether the US continues to provide aid to Kyiv, but did not provide details.
