UK threatens Israel with recognition of Palestine

The UK will recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September if Israel continues to block humanitarian aid to Gaza and conduct military operations in the enclave, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office has said.

“We are determined to uphold the viability of a two-state solution and will therefore recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September unless the Israeli government takes significant steps to resolve the grave situation in Gaza and commits to achieving a long-term and sustainable peace, including allowing the UN to immediately resume humanitarian aid to combat the famine in Gaza, agreeing to a ceasefire and making a clear statement that it will not annex any part of the West Bank,” the statement said.
