The US administration, having “not observed any changes in Russia’s position on nuclear (weapons), sees no reason to adjust the US… position and doctrine (on this issue) in response to Russia’s statements today.” This was stated by the official representative of the White House, Voice of America reports.
“We were not surprised by Russia’s statement that it would update its nuclear doctrine… This is more like the same irresponsible rhetoric from Russia that we have seen over the past two years. As we told Russia several weeks ago, Russia’s use of DPRK soldiers in combat against Ukraine represents a significant escalation of its war against Ukraine, and we warned that the United States would respond,” the White House representative emphasized.
Putin signed a decree “On Approval of the Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Field of Nuclear Deterrence,” which was published on the Russian state website and immediately entered into force.
Moscow took this step a few days after it became known that the White House had given Ukraine permission to launch American-made missiles deep into Russian territory.
Earlier, a representative of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the Kremlin’s decisions were irresponsible.
