The US and Mexican militaries have agreed to coordinate border patrols, the Pentagon said in a statement released on Wednesday.
As stated in the document, US Northern Command Commander General Gregory Guillot and Mexican Defense Minister General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo recently met to discuss cooperation in border security.
“[The parties] agreed to conduct coordinated patrols on their sides of the border, enhance information exchange, and establish methods for immediate communication. The agreement emphasizes that each country will respect the sovereignty of the other,” the Pentagon statement said.
As noted, the parties expect that the agreement “will facilitate further negotiations and more detailed coordination at various levels to ensure mutual border security.”
