The US must show Russian President Vladimir Putin that America can turn Russia and him personally into “fish food,” said Republican Senator John Kennedy, commenting on the progress of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine and the continuation of Russian strikes on civilian targets.
“Putin has broken every promise he made to President Trump. He has shown disrespect for our president. I don’t think the situation will improve until we make it clear to Mr. Putin that we are prepared to turn him and his country into fish food,” Kennedy said on Fox News. In order to force Russia to start peace talks, it must be “broken” and “strangled,” the senator added.
The day before, US President Donald Trump once again called on Putin to stop the strikes on Ukraine and sit down at the negotiating table. The head of the White House also said that he was “very disappointed” by the missile attack on Kyiv on Thursday, April 24, which killed 12 people and injured 87 others.
“We’ll see what happens over the next few days. <…> We have the basis for an agreement. I want him to sign it, get it over with, and just get back to normal life,” Trump told reporters.
Previously, Trump has repeatedly stated that Putin is ready for negotiations and “wants peace.” However, in April alone, the Russian army launched three massive strikes on Ukrainian cities with a large number of casualties — on Krivoy Rog, Sumy, and Kyiv.
