Using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza is a war crime, UN rights chief says

Using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza is a war crime, UN human rights chief Volker Turk said, the Times of Israel reports.

“The famine in Gaza is a direct result of the Israeli government’s actions, and deaths from starvation may constitute a war crime,” he said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres added: “We cannot allow this situation to go unpunished. Full and unhindered humanitarian access must be ensured.”

Guterres also called for “an immediate ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, and full and unhindered humanitarian access.”
