Lusine Ananyan, head of the Communist Party faction in Gyumri, is sounding the alarm.
Vardan Ghukasyan, held in the Kentron penitentiary institution in Yerevan, is being held in unbearable and unacceptable conditions that seriously threaten his health and right to life.
There are sufficient grounds to believe that Article 26 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibit inhuman and degrading treatment, have been violated.
“Considering Vardan Ghukasyan’s deteriorating health and the threat to his life and health,
I demand:
1. An urgent court hearing be convened immediately,
2. Vardan Ghukasyan’s conditions of detention in his cell be presented and examined,
3. The relevant authorities be required to ensure Ghukasyan receives conditions that meet safety and health requirements.”
