The Pan-Armenian Council for the Preservation of the Armenian Church issued a statement, which reads:
“Compatriots, faithful children of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church!
There is no longer any doubt that the current government, led by Nikol Pashinyan, has crossed all boundaries of morality, national dignity, statehood, and even basic human principles. The unleashed campaign against the Armenian Church has reached its peak, escalating into open hostility.
According to available information, another vile conspiracy is brewing behind the scenes within the government. There is concern that attempts will be made to detain or isolate Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, returning from Marseille on a papal visit, right at the airport.
There is only one goal: to disrupt the Bishops’ Conference, which will take place on December 10-12, where crucial issues for the nation will be discussed at any cost. The time has come to awaken and rise to the defense of our sacred sites. All faithful people and national forces must stand with the Armenian Patriarch.
We will gather today at 8:00 PM in front of the VIP lounge of Zvartnots Airport.
We call on all worthy Armenians, intellectuals, public figures, and concerned citizens to come and greet His Holiness. We must demonstrate our unity and prevent unclean hands from touching the Armenian Patriarch.
Come and prove with your presence that the Armenian Church is inviolable, and those who encroach upon it will answer before history and the nation. “May God protect the Armenian Church and our nation.”
