Several participants in the Artsakh War have announced the return of the medals they received for their service to the Motherland. Today, October 2, they gathered in front of the government building.
One of the protesters, Hovsep Ghazaryan, told reporters: “This government, in order to correct its mistakes rather than acknowledge them, is trying to rewrite our history, trying to nullify our lives, our hardships, our struggle for which we shed blood. It is telling us that our struggle of the last 30 years, the idea for which our republic was proclaimed and which was the ideological foundation of our state, was a lie, a lie, and does not exist.
In protest against this disgrace, my comrades-in-arms and I have decided to return the medals we received. We received these medals for our participation in battles in the northern direction during the 44-day war. We can no longer wear these medals when every value, every idea, every sacrifice that formed the foundation of these medals has been erased, and we are told that this simply didn’t happen, that it was a mistake.
We received… In addition to the medals of the President of the Republic of Artsakh and the President of the Republic of Armenia, I will present my Combat Cross, Second Class, and the Medal “For Military Merit.” Currently, seven participants are presenting them.
With this step, we want to express our protest against this and will fight to prevent such a thing from happening again. This step will be followed by other steps, which you will learn about,” he said.
