The US president said he could not agree on a date for his personal talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Korean media reported.
“I know Kim Jong-un very well. We get along very well. We really couldn’t agree on a time,” Trump said in opening remarks at the Gyeongju National Museum on Wednesday for an expanded summit with South Korean President Lee Jae-myeon.
“We will have other visits and work with Kim Jong-un and everyone to resolve the situation,” he added.
Noting that the two US presidents had said they would see what they could do to resolve it, he added that he would work very hard on it. Trump also cited his experience in resolving other international conflicts.
Recall that in a conversation with reporters before the meeting with Lee Je-myung, the US president emphasized that he has always had a very good relationship with Kim Jong-un, but due to his busy schedule, he is not sure whether a bilateral meeting will take place during his Asian tour.
On October 30, Trump will also meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
