I’m surprised by those who have always tried, and still try, to counteract impeachment with elections. The third president of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, stated this in a conversation with journalists in the courthouse courtyard.
“We’ve said this ten times, and now we’ll say it for the eleventh time: regardless of the circumstances, whether there’s impeachment or not, there will be elections. These are ordinary elections that can only be postponed in rare cases.
Our decision, our statement, is about unity. We say that impeachment is also a tool for resolving the crisis; let’s give it a try. If they say this won’t happen, what should we do now, etc., they’re most likely like Armenia’s current rulers, who say, “Well, we’re weak, let’s give Azerbaijan whatever it wants,” he noted.
Speaking about the upcoming elections, Sargsyan said:
“As for our participation in the elections, we’ll make a decision based on how effective our decision will be in the fight against Armenia’s current rulers.”
