We demand that the transport routes 25 and 59 of the Proshyan and Kasakh communities be left unchanged until the problem is truly and finally resolved. This was stated today, April 22, during the protest by Kasakh resident David Boyajyan.
It should be noted that the residents of the Proshyan and Kasakh communities have blocked the highway leading to Yerevan and demand that buses #25 and #59, which connect these two villages with Yerevan, not be removed from the route.
“If #25 and #59 remain and enter the village in the same form, there will be no problems, we will wait,” he said.
Mariam Petrosyan, a resident of Proshyan, added: “The government passed the law in 2006 and did not resolve the issue for 19 years, then in 2021 a tender was announced in which only Multitrans participated and won with a fare of 250 drams, when such a price did not exist in these parts. It seems suspicious to me that only one company participates in the tender, and 19 years later they decide to put minibuses on the route in 2025 and already at astronomical prices.” At one point, the situation became tense, as police officers present at the protest tried to clear the road, saying that there was an 80-year-old woman on the bus who needed to get home. “We are going for you, don’t do this, go the other way. You talk about patriotism, you talk about humanity, there are 80-year-old people in the car, clear the road, let the person go,” the police representative said.
At that moment, it also turned out that one of the protesters had been drinking alcohol. The police tried to isolate him, but the villagers did not allow this, saying that he was leaving now, that he was leaving here.
Finally, the bus was allowed to pass.
After some time, the action ended.
Earlier, the protests began with the still operating route No. 5. Residents of the Proshyan and Kasakh communities previously used buses No. 25 and 59, paying 150 drams to get to Yerevan. Now the Yerevan Municipality has decided that the buses will not reach these settlements. The new route will be served by the Multitransport company, the fare will be 250 and 200 drams. In addition, as previously reported by residents, the new route will cover only 7 km, running from their settlements to the famous Institute of Physics in the Ajapnyak administrative district, and the last bus will depart at 19:30. The last stop on the previous route was near Victory Park.
