During a meeting in Paris on October 24, a number of countries intend to raise 500 million euros to provide urgent humanitarian aid to Lebanon.
France has historical ties to Lebanon, and in negotiations with Washington, it tried to achieve a ceasefire there. According to the publication, Paris urgently organized a conference at which 70 delegations and 15 international organizations will be represented. However, the number of ministers participating in the conference is small.
French Special Representative to Lebanon Jean-Yves Le Drian said that if the conflict is not stopped, the country could face the risk of civil war.
The conference is expected to be attended by Acting Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati and other officials; Israel and Iran have not been invited.
According to the French Foreign Ministry, the goal is to raise at least 500 million euros during the conference, primarily to provide assistance to 500,000 to 1 million displaced persons. Lebanon has said it needs about $250 million a month to resolve the crisis.
Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on Lebanon since September 23 and has been launching a ground operation against Hezbollah since October 1, killing about 2,000 people and forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes.
