Xi Jinping to Macron: China and France must take the right stance in the face of global change

China and France must resolutely take the right stance in the face of global change, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron arrived in Beijing on Wednesday evening for a state visit that runs until December 5.

Xi Jinping called on his French counterpart to show responsibility and resolve at a time when the world is experiencing profound changes unseen in a century.

“Humanity once again stands at a crossroads, choosing its next path. China and France must show responsibility and resolve, hold high the banner of multipolarity, break through the darkness and fog, and resolutely take the right stance,” Xi Jinping said.

The French president said France and China need to bring their positions closer together.

“Sometimes there are differences, but we must overcome them for the common good,” Macron said.

He also hinted that China has a decisive influence on the ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to Chinese customs data, China is France’s seventh-largest trading partner, purchasing approximately $35 billion worth of goods annually.
