Yerevan has the worst air quality in the South Caucasus. This was stated by Françoise Jacob, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, on September 23 at the “Future of Banking: Innovation and Development Prospects” forum.
According to her, this impacts the country’s attractiveness. She also noted the problem of active desertification of Armenian lands, as well as river pollution from agriculture, construction, and mining activities. Jacob estimates that Armenia spends only 0.6% of its GDP on environmental protection.
