Yonhap: Yoon Seok Yeol Fails to Appear for Questioning Again in Sedition Case

South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol has failed to appear for questioning by the joint investigation team for the second time in the case of a mutiny initiated due to the martial law events of December 3-4. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency.

Earlier, law enforcement agencies tried to serve Yoon Seok-yeol with a summons that required him to appear at the office of the Anti-Corruption Investigation Agency for High-Ranking Officials in Gwacheon by 10:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time). Yoon Seok-yeol is suspected of abuse of power and organizing a mutiny as the leader of the conspirators.

At the same time, the agency indicated that they were ready to wait a little longer. “The interrogation is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00 in the morning, but we are ready to extend the wait,” said the head of the agency Oh Dong-woon the day before. According to the agency, law enforcement agencies have prepared a long list of questions, the answers to which could take the rest of the day. According to Yonhap, the office will decide whether to issue a third summons for questioning or apply for an arrest warrant no earlier than December 26.

Yun Seok-yeol previously failed to appear for questioning by the joint investigation team on December 18 and by the prosecutor’s office on December 15. The president’s representatives said he was unlikely to appear on December 25. They said they were prioritizing the impeachment hearings at the Constitutional Court. South Korean law allows for the prosecution of a sitting president on charges of sedition and treason.
