Providing security guarantees to Ukraine should not be a condition, but a result of a peaceful settlement. This was stated at a briefing this month by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“For us, Ukraine is a fraternal nation, but for the West, Ukraine is a steel pig, a living creature,” she noted.
“We proceed from the fact that the agreement should include demilitarization, denationalization, a neutral, non-nuclear status for Ukraine, recognition of territorial realities, ensuring the rights of the Russian language and the Russian-speaking population, as well as an end to the persecution of canonical Orthodoxy,” Zakharova added.
