Al Hadath: Cairo’s plan to rebuild Gaza would cost $38 billion

The reconstruction of the Palestinian Gaza Strip, according to a plan prepared in Egypt, will cost $38 billion. This was reported by the Al Hadath TV channel, citing a document that the leaders of the League of Arab States (LAS) member states are expected to discuss at a summit in Cairo on Tuesday.

“The plan for the reconstruction of the Palestinian Gaza Strip involves the allocation of $38 billion, most of which will go to the reconstruction of housing,” the channel quotes an excerpt from the document. According to the draft, the reconstruction process will take place in two stages: “the first will last for two years, the second – for two and a half years.” The plan involves “providing temporary housing during the reconstruction period in several cities” of the Palestinian enclave.

As for the future management of the sector, Egypt proposes “the formation of an independent committee of technocrats” that will assume this function within six months. In addition, it is assumed that Egypt and Jordan will conduct “training of the Palestinian police in preparation for the deployment of its forces in the Gaza Strip.”

On March 2, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty said that “the plan to rebuild Gaza is ready” and is expected to be approved at an emergency Arab League summit in Cairo on March 4. Its details have not been officially disclosed.
