Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s wife, Asma, may have collaborated with British intelligence. This was reported by Syrian journalist Nizar Nayouf, who published secret documents that were prepared by the intelligence services in the early 1990s at the request of Assad’s father, Hafez.
It is alleged that Assad himself was being followed while he was studying in London.
According to Sky News Arabia, Hafez did not trust his son’s future daughter-in-law and was against their wedding, which was played only after the death of the former head of state’s father. Due to his mistrust of Asma, Hafez instructed the intelligence services to follow her in the UK and find out about her entourage.
Bashar al-Assad’s wife was born in London and graduated from King’s College, University of London. Syrian intelligence services found out that during her work at JPMorgan Bank, she was accompanied and assisted by an employee from British intelligence.
In addition, Hafez was informed that during Bashar’s meeting with Asma and her mother in expensive hotels on the street, they were guarded by UK intelligence officers.
