Brazil’s President says he will remain in Sao Paulo until December 19 for tests

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said he will remain in Sao Paulo, where he has undergone two surgeries, until Thursday, December 19, and then return to Brasilia to resume work.

“If I take care of myself, wait for everything to heal, I will recover soon,” the Brazilian president wrote on his Facebook page. “I am very disciplined, I will stay in Sao Paulo until Thursday to do the final tests and then return to Brasilia to resume work.”

Lula da Silva’s physician, Ana Helena Germolho, announced on December 15 that the Brazilian president had been discharged from a Sao Paulo hospital after being hospitalized on December 10 and undergoing two surgeries to prevent a brain hemorrhage, and could return to Brasilia.

Vice President Geraldo Alckmin is acting head of state while Lula da Silva undergoes treatment.
