Lebanon’s Acting Health Minister Firas Abyad has updated the data on the victims of Israeli bombings and shelling since the start of the military escalation in October 2023. Speaking at a press conference in Beirut, he said that the death toll from Israeli attacks was 4,047, with over 16,593 wounded.
“Since September 15 of this year, when intensive bombing of Beirut and other cities began, the number of victims has increased from 645 to 3,402, and the wounded from 1,983 to 14,655,” the acting Minister of Health said.
Abyad explained that the data he provided is not final. “There are bodies of the dead under the collapsed buildings, and search and rescue operations are underway in a number of places,” he said.
On November 27, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon came into force in accordance with the American-French initiative. The document provides for the deployment of the Lebanese army along the southern border with the support of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon. In turn, the Jewish state will begin to gradually (over a period of up to 60 days) withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory.
