Panama protesters burn Trump portrait after canal remarks

Protesters in Panama burned a US flag to protest US President-elect Donald Trump’s comments about wanting to retake the Panama Canal if its current terms are not revised. The video was posted on Instagram by the National Union of Construction and Related Workers.

“We want to take this opportunity to express our categorical rejection of the US government’s statements about its intention to retake our canal. We ask the government to act more decisively,” said one of the protest organizers.

The demonstration was called to express disagreement with the Panamanian government’s social policies, but the participants also used the opportunity to condemn Trump’s statements. The video shows protesters burning an American flag and a portrait of the US president-elect.

On Sunday, Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the US could demand that the Panama Canal be retaken if its current terms are not revised.
