A will was found in the car that was used to run over a crowd in the German city of Magdeburg, Der Spiegel reports.
In the note, the driver stated that all of his property should be transferred to the German Red Cross (DRK) after his death. As the publication notes, no political messages were found in the note.
The man rented a BMW on December 11, more than a week before the crime was committed.
The tragedy occurred on the evening of December 20 at a Christmas market. The driver of the car was detained; he turned out to be a doctor born in 1974 from Saudi Arabia who works in Bernburg, about 300 km from Magdeburg.
Magdeburg Senior Public Prosecutor Horst Nopens said that the motive could have been dissatisfaction with how refugees from Saudi Arabia are treated in Germany.
According to the police, five people died in the collision, including one child. The AFP agency, citing German rescue services, wrote that between 60 and 80 people were injured in the incident. Later, Bild, citing local police data, wrote about more than 200 victims.
The fair was closed after the incident. It was originally planned to be open until December 29.
