Today, the Anti-Corruption Court, chaired by Judge Aram Grigoryan, held another hearing in the case of the third President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. The court is moving on to the evidence review stage.
The Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion to question Serzh Sargsyan and Flash Company CEO Barsegh Beglaryan at the main hearing. The judge asked Serzh Sargsyan, “Do you intend to be questioned at the main hearing?” Serzh Sargsyan replied, “We’ll see, depending on the situation. Most often, no, but I can’t say.” Barsegh Beglaryan expressed his willingness to be questioned.
Serzh Sargsyan’s lawyer, Amram Makinyan, stated that the Court of Appeals’ legally binding ruling specifically noted circumstances that contradicted the property claim filed by the prosecutor at the previous court hearing. “The Court of Appeals never questioned Mr. President’s innocence in any of its verdicts,” he said.
The prosecutor noted that he does not share the defense’s position, as the Court of Appeals established a new body of evidence, and the scope of the evidence reviewed must be determined. “The court must decide on the scope of the evidence presented by the prosecution and include it in the body of evidence to be considered. However, during the review of the evidence, it may be appropriate to consider the evidence recorded in the Court of Appeals’ position, and then we can discuss the issue of other evidence,” the prosecutor noted.
