Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the Supreme Body of the Republican Party of Armenia, wrote:
“The crime of October 27, 1999, was directed against Armenian statehood and the ruling political team – the Unity bloc (the Republican Party of Armenia and the People’s Democratic Party of Armenia).
It also dealt a serious blow to the Republican Party.
The leader of the Republican Party, Vazgen Sargsyan, one of its leaders, Yuri Bakhshyan, and the renowned freedom fighter and comrade of Vazgen, Armenak Armenakyan, were killed.
The terrorist attack of October 27 is one of the most tragic pages of our recent history. It was also a shot aimed at Armenian Artsakh and our “historical foundations.”
The geopolitical beneficiaries of the events of October 27 were anti-Armenian forces hostile to the Republic of Armenia, who opposed the unified position of Vazgen Sargsyan, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan on the Artsakh issue.
In my deep conviction, this crime also dealt a blow to a free and independent Artsakh, which continued with the change of power in 2018 and the capitulation of November 9, 2020, the recognition of Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan on October 6, 2022, and the depopulation of Artsakh in September 2023.
Unfortunately, the “shooting down” of our statehood continues today, under the guise of “peace,” but in reality, it is a destructive program of Azerbaijanization of Armenia.
Light and peace to the souls of Karen Demirchyan, Vazgen Sargsyan, Ruben Miroyan, Yuri Bakhshyan, Mikael Kotanyan, Leonard Petrosyan, Henrik Abrahamyan, and Armenak Armenakyan.
