Yonhap: South Korea’s impeached president to be questioned Wednesday

A special group of investigators plans to summon South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol for questioning on Wednesday, Yonhap News reports.

The law enforcement officers came to Yoon’s residence to deliver the notice to him.

On December 14, the parliament announced the impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol due to his declaration of martial law South Korea, as a result of which his powers were terminated. Now the Constitutional Court has to decide whether to confirm this impeachment or reinstate Yoon.

An investigation is being conducted against him on the suspicion of causing a riot, the purpose of which was the overthrow of the constitutional order. On the evening of December 3, Yoon Suk Yeol had declared martial law South Korea, but it was canceled by the country’s about six hours later.

Earlier, Yonhap reported that the prosecutor’s office had summoned Yoon for questioning on December 15, but he did not come. According to the news agency, Yoon Suk Yeol has not yet hired lawyers, and that’s why he didn’t come for the questioning.
