Ukraine needs its own defense while it is still in the process of joining NATO. This could be nuclear weapons or more missiles, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, RBK-Ukraine reports, citing his interview with Piers Morgan.
According to Zelensky, if Ukraine is not joining NATO yet, the country needs defense during the entire process.
“If this process drags on for years or decades, not because of us, but because of our partners, then we have an absolutely fair question about what will protect us from this evil all this time along this path. What kind of support package, what missiles? Will they give us nuclear weapons? Then let them give us nuclear weapons. Will they give us missiles in such quantities that we can stop Russia?” Zelensky said.
In his opinion, this could help contain Russia for a certain time.
“Give us back nuclear weapons, give us missile systems, partners, help us finance a million-strong army, transfer your contingent to those parts of our state where we want stability in the situation, so that people are calm. If we talk about this, fine, but here comes the question I told you about. If we are not in NATO, then why is he (Russian President Vladimir Putin – ed.) on our land? If we are not in NATO and America says that we are not ready to accept Ukraine into NATO, then Putin should completely retreat from our territory,” the Ukrainian president said.
